Bill Requires Texas Public Schools To Have Defibrillators

A bill requiring every public school to have a life-saving device at athletic practices and competitions is now law in Texas.

"For a brief moment, an episode of ventricular fibrillation threatened to take my life away, and because an AED was available when I desperately needed one, I am here today," said Matt Nader, who was saved by and AED, or automatic external defibrillator.

The AED is what saved Nader's life, and now it's a must for all UIL events.

Education leaders joined Gov. Rick Perry and the lieutenant governor for the ceremonial bill signing Wednesday morning.
